Shashi Tharoor got married with Dubai-based Sunanda Pushkar on Sunday August 22 and exchanges their vows at Palakkad district of Kerala.
The traditional wedding took place at Tharoor’s inherited home in Elavanchery near Palakkad and both the bride and groom were dressed in white, as per the tradition. This was the 3rd marriage for both Tharoor and Sunanda.
The marriage was attended by Tharoor’s 94-year-old grandmother; his mother; his 2 sons from his 1st marriage, Sunanda’s father Pushkarnath Das and her son. Among the only political guests at the wedding was Tharoor’s friend Mani Shankar Aiyar. There were about 300 guests in total at the wedding.
Pushkar was 1st briefly married to a Kashmiri, after that she married a Malayali who worked in an investment-cum-insurance company in Dubai. He died in a road accident in 1997 in Delhi. Tharoor was 1st married to a college friend, Tilottama, a Bengali. He has twin sons from her. He afterward married Christa, a Canadian, and divorced her lately.
The former minister of state Tharoor for external affairs and helped to power India’s outreach to Africa, before he ran into media controversy. First over his perceived political imprudence, mainly his tweeting where he was seen to say things he should not be saying as a minister and then in favoring a bidder for IPL team from Kerala amid implications that he had financial stakes that he firmly denied.
The couple will be having a 3 day wedding reception in Dubai towards the end of this week. This will be after that another reception in Delhi.
